• Amazon will need to raise prices by approximately 2.5% in the U.S. to offset the impact of the newly imposed tariffs on goods from China. The new tariffs will impact footwear, smart watches and flat-screen TVs.
  • Amazon employees are planning a strike to protest the company’s climate policies. Over 900 employees, calling themselves Amazon Employees for Climate Justice, signed a petition vowing to walk-out of work in protest of the company’s lack of action in combating climate change. The group demands that Amazon 1) Stop donating to politicians that deny climate change; 2) Be carbon neutral by 2030; and 3) Stop relying on oil and gas firms for energy.
  • Shopify bought a warehouse automation company to better compete with Amazon. The ecommerce platform purchased 6 River systems for $450 million. The acquisition will improve Shopify Fulfillment Network’s capabilities to better compete with Amazon’s robot-enabled warehouses.
