• Amazon altered it search algorithm to promote Amazon owned products. People who worked on the project said that Amazon enhanced its search tool algorithm to rank Amazon products regardless of the “most-relevant” and “best-selling” features used to filter products. The move ultimately boosts Amazon’s profitability since data shows that consumers are most likely to purchase products from the first page of search results.
  • Amazon’s cashierless Go stores are projected to grow to 156 stores and to reach $639 million in revenue by 2020. This marks a continued expansion of the business unit which has been ramping up its growth over the past few years.
  • Amazon will open a Chicago tech hub, which will create 400 jobs. The new roles will focus on cloud computing, advertising and business development. Amazon says it has already created more than 11,000 full-time jobs and invested more than $4.4 billion in Illinois since 2010.
