• Amazon did a PR push to focus on small businesses. The retailer launched a series of events in specific cities, surrounding select small business merchants, which make-up approximately 58% of sales.
  • Amazon signed more than a dozen leases for a chain of Amazon grocery stores in Los Angeles. Amazon plans to expand its grocery stores in the New York metropolitan area, New Jersey and Connecticut. Amazon currently has 18 open and announced Amazon Go stores, 19 Amazon Books stores and six Amazon 4-star stores.
  • Amazon is bringing its cashierless Go technology into airports and movie theatres in Q1 2019. Amazon is in talks with OTG’s CIBO Express. The move will help Amazon expand its retail presence.
  • Amazon will launch new inventory sensors added to the Smart Home Skill API, making it easier for customers to get refills. Alexa will inform customers when their supplies are running low and customers can schedule an automatic refill. The new sensors will work when ordering ink, air filters and detergent for washing machines.
  • Amazon will bring Alexa technology to wearable products as well as a new set of devices. The new products range from earbuds to rings, expanding Alexa’s reach further into consumers’ everyday lives. New devices include a high-end speakers, multifunction oven and a motion sensor with virtual assistants built in.
